Getting Started (With Sketches)

I was having trouble deciding where to start with this devlog, because the project has (somehow) taken shape as I work it with different teachers, so, after a (metaphorical) coin flip  I aimed my attention to the fact that I need my art ready for the first level to start working with the layout in Unity, at least as a playground kind of thing, just to have a better understanding of my own vision of the level.

And that how we began with the Egyptian museum assets!

At first I had a rough idea of the space that would surround the player; the only thing I knew was that I REALLY wanted to create museum vibes. To make the player feel that he is inside a place where the past comes back alive (Literally)... So I began getting references. The first thing that came to mind was Yu-Gi-Oh!, the chamber where the Pharaoh has his final duel with his other half (at this point this shouldn't be a spoiler, so sorry not sorry) with the giant stone in the back, which has a prophesy drawn in it, explaining the inevitable destiny of the Pharaoh. After thinking about this for a while I noticed that it was a good idea, but first I needed walls, the "chamber" itself.

With this new focus I searched for references and found the inside of the Cairo museum, which helped to create the base layout of the level.

Now that we have a rough sketch of the inside of the level, my mind instantly started to fill the inside of the museum... as I viewed the images of the museum I saw cool shaped stones, relics, staffs, weapons,  boxes and other things that didn't catch my eye that much. That's how most of the assets came to life.

While I was finishing with the Assets I felt kind of neutral with the things I had. I felt that I needed something else to spice things up... I mean, the level IS the inside of a museum, but its not a normal museum, so we can think out of the box right? With this mentality I let my mind and my hand fly, creating different assets that could be used in the level in different ways.

And that's all! I have to say that, this being my first entry of the devlog I feel ready for what's to come. Also exited!

I'll be working and updating this log weekly, first uploading sketches of rough ideas of the art, and then there'll be a post with the updated and modified assets, just to have a comparison of the changes and updates. Also, this can help to get feedback from you, the reader (if there happens to be any feedback) to understand the way other people read the assets of the levels.

I know that the sketches could be hard to read/understand, so maybe you can take these as a general idea of what is to come. With this in mind, I'll highlight the fact that for the clean version of most of this assets/backgrounds... I will need a ruler and other drawing tools to make things look better.
